Talking Spaces: Architects and Educators

This article synthesises longitudinal deliberations between two architects and an educator, seeking common ground about learning spaces in schools. As the impetus for new refurbished school buildings continues New Zealand, it is timely to unpack instinctual disciplinary practices better understand space place We undertook a process of ‘bumping’ ideas against one another, establishing intersections around nature physical created, inhabited, appropriated used educational purposes. The documenting our was dialogic autoethnographic. Through interrogating literature images, we explored how classrooms function teaching learning, opportunities both intimate social teaching. sought clarify translate flexible collaboration whole class into design schools classrooms. shared knowledge pedagogy architecture, from these iterative practices, offer places those positions. professionals, had internalised so much expertise within own fields,we realised that articulating others can be struggle. have crafting this partially compensate misplacing words express why do what practices. believe matters not only are designed well, but also educators talk with rather than past each other.
